# Getting to Hue by train, plane or bus

## Short Answer

The train is the main way in: Ga Huế is 12 hours 30 minutes to 14 hours from Hanoi on SE trains, about 2 hours 30 minutes from Da Nang along the coast. October 2026 railway fares from Hanoi started at 479,000₫ for a soft seat and 896,000₫ for a four-berth compartment. Flights land at Phú Bài airport (HUI); night buses from Hanoi and Ninh Binh stop at company offices or Bến xe Nguyễn Hoàng, not the station.

## Quick Facts

- Region: Central Vietnam; Huế is a centrally governed city, unchanged by the 2025 province merger
- Airport: Phú Bài (HUI)
- Usual way in: SE train or heritage train to Ga Huế; flight to Phú Bài; bus to a company office
- Stations and terminals: Ga Huế; Bến xe Nguyễn Hoàng; bus offices at 45 Lê Lợi and 35 Nguyễn Công Trứ

## Arriving by train, plane or night bus

**From Hanoi by train.** Six trains in the October 2026 timetable:

- By day: SE7 at 06:00 arriving at 19:38 and SE5 at 08:00 arriving at 21:35.
- Afternoon: SE9 at 13:00, arriving at 03:07.
- Overnight: SE3 at 19:20, SE19 at 19:45 and SE1 at 21:45, arriving at 07:50, 08:45 and 10:25.

SE3 is the quickest at 12 hours 30 minutes.

A soft seat cost from 479,000₫, a six-berth top berth from 667,000₫, a four-berth compartment from 896,000₫.

**From Da Nang.** About 2 hours 30 minutes on the SE trains, or on the railway's heritage train via Lăng Cô; see the [Hue to Da Nang page](/hue-to-da-nang/).

**By night bus.** Buses from Hanoi, Ninh Binh and Phong Nha end at company offices, most often **45 Lê Lợi** (G8), 35 Nguyễn Công Trứ (HK Buslines) or Bến xe Nguyễn Hoàng (Nguyen Hoang bus station). One G8 bus from Hanoi uses a stop it calls Hue Railway Station: it is still a bus.

## The heritage train south, the night trains north

**South to Da Nang by heritage train.** HĐ1 leaves Ga Huế at 07:05 and reaches Đà Nẵng at 10:10; HĐ3 leaves at 14:30 and arrives at 18:15, both stopping at Lăng Cô. A soft seat cost 185,000₫ on the railway's timetable for October 2026.

**North to Hanoi.** SE8 at 02:17 and SE6 at 04:49 arrive the same afternoon or evening; SE4 at 15:10, SE2 at 15:54 and SE20 at 20:48 arrive early the next morning (04:36, 05:42 and 11:10). Seats from 479,000₫, a four-berth compartment from 778,000₫ on SE20.

**To Ninh Binh.** The northbound trains stop at Ga Ninh Bình, in the city, not at Tam Coc: SE20 at 20:48 arrives at 07:59. The night buses go to Tam Coc itself; see the section below.

**To Hoi An.** There is no train; limousine buses take about 3 hours, and G8 alone ran 35 departures a day for October 2026, from 45 Lê Lợi and its Hue railway-station stop. The [Hoi An page](/hoi-an/#hue-to-hoi-an) has the fares both ways.

## Hanoi to Hue: the overnight train, or a cabin bus
