Vietnam buses: sleepers, cabins and daytime vans
Overnight buses in Vietnam sell berths, not seats: rows of sleeper berths, or private cabins. Shorter trips use nine-seat limousine vans, which are seats, not beds. For October 2026, Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat takes 6 to 8 hours from about 401,500₫ online, against a 55-minute flight from about 970,700₫. The thing to check is the pickup: many buses leave from a company office, not the bus station.

Sleeper, cabin or a seat in a van
The class name on the ticket tells you whether you lie down or sit. "VIP 22 Single Cabin" is a berth in a private cabin; "Limousine" is usually a nine-seat van. "VIP" on its own tells you neither.
| Ticket example | Class | Journey and online fare, October 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Inter Bus Lines, Hanoi → Sapa | Sleeper 44 | About 5 hours 30 minutes to 6 hours, from 271,548₫ |
| Thanh Buoi, Ho Chi Minh City → Da Lat | Sleeper 34 | 7 hours, from 439,200₫ |
| An Anh, Ho Chi Minh City → Da Lat | VIP 34 | 8 hours, 405,000₫ |
| Binh Minh Tai, Ho Chi Minh City → Da Lat | VIP 22 cabin | 7 hours 30 minutes, from 506,730₫ |
| LH Minh Tri, Ho Chi Minh City → Da Lat | Nine-seat limousine | 6 hours, from 517,500₫ |
| iHome, Nha Trang → Da Lat | Tourist van | 3 hours, about 267,500₫ |
Single and double cabins are sold separately, and on some Sapa buses so are upper and lower berths. The "from" price is the cheapest of them.
Hanoi to Sapa: the bus goes all the way
The bus drops you in Sapa itself; the train stops at Lào Cai, an hour below. October 2026 buses take about 5 hours 30 minutes to 6 hours 30 minutes, from 271,548₫ for Inter Bus Lines' Sleeper 44, more for a cabin.
Pickups differ: Old Quarter offices, other city offices and Nội Bài airport. The Hanoi to Sapa page lists them, and the drop-offs on the way back, where a city ticket and an airport ticket end in different places.
Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat: day or night
FUTA's day bus runs station to station, 09:00 to 17:00, about 401,500₫ online for October 2026. Night buses tend to leave from a company office in the city and arrive early the next morning.
| Company | Ho Chi Minh City → Da Lat | Da Lat → Ho Chi Minh City | Online fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| FUTA | Bến xe Miền Tây, 09:00 → Bến xe Đà Lạt, 17:00 | Bến xe Đà Lạt, 23:00 → Bến xe Miền Tây, 07:00 next day | About 401,500₫ each way |
| Thanh Buoi | 266 Lê Hồng Phong, 23:30 → Da Lat ThanhBuoi, 06:30 next day | Da Lat ThanhBuoi, 22:00 → 266 Lê Hồng Phong, 05:00 next day | From 439,200₫ each way |
| An Anh | 64 Nguyễn Cư Trinh, 23:05 → 86 Khe Sanh, 07:05 next day | 86 Khe Sanh, 23:00 → 64 Nguyễn Cư Trinh, 07:00 next day | 405,000₫ outward, VIP 34; from 450,000₫ back, Single Cabin |
Bến xe Miền Tây (Mien Tay bus station) and Bến xe Đà Lạt (Da Lat bus station) are bus stations; the other addresses are company offices. The Da Lat guide adds the nine-seat vans, the VIP 22 cabins and the flight.
Nha Trang, Da Lat and the central coast
Between Nha Trang and Da Lat, iHome's tourist van runs 13:00 to 16:00 in both directions, about 267,500₫ each way for October 2026, from 34 Bùi Phùng in Nha Trang to An Tien Cafe in Da Lat. The Nha Trang page has the other offices and the southern bus station.
Longer rides often arrive at dawn. Viet Lao's Cabin 32 from Da Nang leaves 28 Huỳnh Thúc Kháng at 19:00 and reaches 67 Mai Hắc Đế in Da Lat at 08:00, 630,000₫; the buses back use other pickups and cabin classes.
- Da Nang to Da Lat: the overnight cabins both ways.
- Da Lat to Mui Ne: day buses, and which stops are in Mui Ne and which in Phan Thiet.
- Nha Trang to Mui Ne: the beach-road stops, and the train to Bình Thuận.
- Hanoi to Ha Giang: sleepers and cabins up to the loop.
Bus, train or flight
On short hops the train can be cheaper than a cabin: Hanoi to Ninh Binh on SE7 takes 2 hours 13 minutes, from 106,000₫ for a seat in October 2026. It stops at Ga Ninh Bình (Ninh Binh station) in the city, while a bus or van can take you to Tam Coc or Trang An.
For Da Lat the sums are different: the flight from Ho Chi Minh City is 55 minutes, but Liên Khương airport is about 30 km from town, and the buses above stop in the city.

Pickup addresses, luggage and cancellation rules
Office, bus station or airport: three different pickups
In Hanoi, Sapa buses leave from company offices, not one terminal: G8 uses 160 Trần Quang Khải and 01 Lê Lai, HK Buslines 70 Nguyễn Hữu Huân and 76 Hồng Tiến. One company's departures can start on different sides of the city, so go by the address on your ticket rather than the company name.
Hanoi–Ha Giang tickets can name Bến xe Mỹ Đình (My Dinh bus station), a company office or the airport. In Ha Giang, Bằng Phấn's office at 100 Trần Phú is not the city bus station.
Some cheaper Da Lat tickets end at Đức Trọng or Phi Nom on highway QL20 rather than in Da Lat: the lower price comes with a different stop.
Confirmation and the ticket on your phone
FUTA confirms by email and by SMS or Zalo after payment, and you can board with the ticket details on your phone, by SMS, email or in its app. If nothing arrives within 30 minutes of paying, its terms give 1900 6067.
Other companies work differently: one iHome Nha Trang–Da Lat limousine ticket says confirmation can come up to 23 hours before departure, and Viet Lao's Cabin 22 ticket accepts an e-ticket on a phone.
FUTA's luggage and boarding rules
FUTA allows 20 kg of luggage and asks you to be at the departure terminal 30 minutes before the bus, 60 minutes at holidays and Tết. Anything oversized has to be arranged through 1900 6067. Other companies set their own limits.
Changes and refunds depend on the ticket
FUTA's own terms allow one change and charge 10% to 30% to cancel, depending on timing and the number of tickets, with requests at a counter or on 1900 6067 at least 24 hours before departure.
The October 2026 FUTA and iHome tickets on sale online were marked non-refundable. That condition is the one that applies to those tickets, whatever the company's general terms say.
Crossing a border by bus
- Vietnam–Cambodia: Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh, Hà Tiên to Kampot, the border gates and visas both ways.
- Vietnam–Laos: every road into Laos, the buses on sale and which gates take which visa.
- Vietnam–China: the road and rail crossings, and why a ticket to Nanning does not name its border gate.
The bus ticket does not cover your entry permission. The Vietnam visa guide has the rules and the official e-visa site.

Sleeper bus and booking questions
What is the difference between a sleeper bus and a cabin bus?
A sleeper bus has rows of berths (Sleeper 34, Sleeper 44); a cabin bus gives each passenger a small private cabin (VIP 22 Single Cabin, Double Cabin), sometimes sold by upper or lower deck. A nine-seat limousine is a van with seats, not beds. Travellers in 2026 report standard sleeper berths too short for tall passengers.
Where can I book buses in Vietnam?
From the company itself: FUTA sells on its website, app, counters and 1900 6067. Online booking services sell many companies' tickets. Confirmation times and refund rules are set ticket by ticket, so read them before paying.
Where do I board a bus in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City?
Wherever your ticket says. Hanoi–Sapa buses leave from offices such as 160 Trần Quang Khải; Ho Chi Minh City–Da Lat buses from Bến xe Miền Tây or offices such as 266 Lê Hồng Phong. These are different places, often far apart.
How much do Vietnam sleeper buses cost?
In October 2026, Hanoi to Sapa on a Sleeper 44 started at 271,548₫ online and Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat on Thanh Buoi's Sleeper 34 at 439,200₫, the same both ways. Cabins and lower decks cost more.
Can I cancel a Vietnam bus ticket?
Only if the ticket allows it. FUTA's own terms charge 10% to 30% with at least 24 hours' notice, but its tickets on sale online in October 2026 were marked non-refundable.
How much luggage can I take on a bus?
It depends on the company. FUTA allows 20 kg, and oversized luggage has to be arranged on 1900 6067 before travel.
Can I show my bus ticket on my phone?
With FUTA, yes: the SMS, the email or the app. Viet Lao's cabin tickets also accept an e-ticket on a phone. Other companies set their own rules.
