Vietnam visa in 2026: e-visa, exemptions and border gates
Every nationality can apply for Vietnam's e-visa at official evisa.gov.vn: up to 90 days, USD 25 single entry or USD 50 multiple entry. Citizens of 24 countries, 22 in Europe plus Japan and South Korea, get up to 45 days visa-free under two government resolutions; ASEAN citizens are exempt under their own agreements. The e-visa works only at listed gates: 83 since 2 December 2025, including the main land crossings from Cambodia, Laos and China.
The e-visa: who, how long, how much
Since 15 August 2023 Vietnam issues e-visas to citizens of every country and territory. An e-visa is valid for up to 90 days, for single or multiple entry. The fee, set by Circular 62/2023/TT-BTC, is USD 25 for single entry and USD 50 for multiple entry up to 90 days.
Apply on evisa.gov.vn, which also answers at thithucdientu.gov.vn. Both belong to the Immigration Department, whose hotline is 024 3825 7941. The address many older guides give, evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn, stopped taking applications at 08:00 on 11 November 2024 and now carries only a notice pointing to the new site.
How to apply, and what to upload
The Immigration Department's own guide sets out the steps on evisa.gov.vn:
- Upload a photo of your passport's data page (under 200 KB) and a portrait, looking straight at the camera, without glasses (under 50 KB).
- Pay the fee online; you then receive a registration code. Keep it.
- Processing takes 3 working days. Check the result in the site's e-visa search with the registration code, your email and your date of birth.
- Print the approved e-visa and carry it when you enter and leave Vietnam.
Travellers in late 2025 report being charged at arrival to correct an e-visa whose name did not match the passport, such as a missing middle name.

Everyone else needs a visa, usually the e-visa.
Where the e-visa works

The e-visa is accepted only at the border gates on the government's list. In 2023 that was 13 airports, 16 land gates and 13 seaports; Resolution 389/NQ-CP of 2 December 2025 added 41 more, for 83 in all.
Land gates on the list, by neighbour:
- Cambodia: Mộc Bài, Xa Mát, Tịnh Biên, Vĩnh Xương, Hà Tiên; added in 2025: Bình Hiệp, Tân Nam, Dinh Bà, Thường Phước (road and river), Lệ Thanh
- Laos: Tây Trang, Na Mèo, Nậm Cắn, Cầu Treo, Cha Lo, La Lay, Lao Bảo, Bờ Y; added in 2025: Lóng Sập, Nam Giang
- China: Hữu Nghị, Móng Cái, Lào Cai (road); added in 2025: Lào Cai and Đồng Đăng (railway), Trà Lĩnh, Thanh Thủy
Airports include Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang and Phu Quoc; Vinh and Chu Lai were added in 2025, and Long Thành and Gia Bình will be once they open. Among the seaports added in 2025 is An Thới on Phu Quoc.
Arriving overland
The border pages for each neighbour cover the crossings in both directions, with the visa you need on the other side: Cambodia's e-visa is accepted at Bavet opposite Mộc Bài, for example, and Cambodia's e-Arrival portal asks travellers to file a free form online before arrival.
