Mộc Bài (Vietnam)–Bavet (Cambodia) is the main Ho Chi Minh City–Phnom Penh crossing: buses take 5 hours 45 minutes to 8 hours 30 minutes, and only Bavet accepts Cambodia's e-visa from Vietnam. Minivans link Hà Tiên with Kampot and Kep via Prek Chak in about two hours, and Châu Đốc with Phnom Penh in seven to nine and a half. Vietnam's e-visa works at Mộc Bài, Xa Mát, Tịnh Biên, Vĩnh Xương and Hà Tiên, among others.

The crossings, and which visa works where

The crossings with buses and minivans on sale:

  • Mộc Bài – Bavet, on the main road between Ho Chi Minh City and Phnom Penh. The buses between the two cities cross here.
  • Hà Tiên (Xà Xía) – Prek Chak, on the coast near Hà Tiên, for Kep and Kampot. Hà Tiên is also the port for the boats to Phu Quoc.
  • Vĩnh Xương – Kaoam Samnor and Tịnh Biên – Phnom Den, near Châu Đốc in the Mekong delta.

Entering Cambodia. Cambodia's official e-visa site lists the ports that accept its e-visa. From Vietnam, only Bavet accepts it for entry.

Kaoam Samnor, Phnom Den and Trapaing Sre are open but do not take the e-visa for entry, and Prek Chak is not on the list. Cambodia's embassies in Bangkok and Berlin say a visa on arrival is issued at its international land checkpoints, these included. The e-visa costs USD 30 plus a service fee and is valid for three months.

Whatever visa you hold, Cambodia's e-Arrival portal asks every traveller to file its free e-Arrival form online within seven days before arrival; the embassy in Berlin says that for now this applies only to arrivals by air.

Entering Vietnam. Vietnam's e-visa is accepted at Mộc Bài, Xa Mát, Tịnh Biên, Vĩnh Xương and Hà Tiên, and since Resolution 389/NQ-CP of 2 December 2025 also at Bình Hiệp, Tân Nam, Dinh Bà, Thường Phước and Lệ Thanh. Check whether your passport is visa-exempt on the Vietnam visa page.
